Members Portal Page Visibility – Clearer Messaging

What’s new in Admin Panel

Access rules set in the Admin Panel determine which users can access each page of your Members Portal.

With this update, the messaging is now clearer for users who don’t have access to a page. Depending on the page, it will either be hidden from the portal navigation or remain visible with a clear ‘Page unavailable’ message explaining what to do next.

There is nothing to switch on.

These changes apply automatically to every Members Portal on v5. We recommend reviewing your rules in Settings → Website → Access to make sure pages are available to the right user groups, and checking that your contact details are up to date if you don’t use the Help Desk.

Pages hidden when a member doesn’t have access

These pages no longer appear anywhere in the portal navigation if the member doesn’t meet the access rules you’ve set:

  • About us
  • Events list and calendar
  • Directory
  • Discussion board
  • Blog and articles
  • Contact
  • Benefits
  • Perks and benefits

Pages that stay visible and explain themselves

Some pages need to stay in the navigation, so members who don’t have access now see a page unavailable message rather than being blocked without explanation:

  • Bookings, in both the main navigation bar and the account menu
  • Help desk
  • FAQs

The message tells the member the page isn’t available to them and points them to support. If your help desk is switched on, the message links straight to it. If it isn’t, the message shows your contact details instead, so nobody reaches a dead end.

Examples of what your users see

A logged-in user tries to book a resource reserved for members:

    1. They’re prompted to log in
    2. Once logged in, they see the Page unavailable message explaining the resource isn’t available to them
    3. They’re directed to your help desk, or to your contact details if the help desk isn’t enabled
  • If a member isn’t registered at the location they’re trying to book (access is restricted to logged-in users), they’ll be prompted to log in and register at the new location. Once logged in, they’ll see a “Page unavailable” message.
