European Coworking Day 2025: How Three Coworking Brands are Leading the Celebration

Beyond providing flexible desks, super-fast WiFi, and inspiring work environments, coworking spaces have a far-reaching impact on local economies and sustainability. European Coworking Day celebrates this transformative impact, bringing coworking spaces across the continent to highlight their contributions to vibrant communities and ecosystems. This year’s celebration falls on Wednesday, 14th May – let’s dive into why this event matters.
The history of European Coworking Day
Led by Claudius Krucker, the founder of CreativeSpace in St. Gallen, Switzerland, and co-president of Coworking Switzerland, European Coworking Day began as an idea to organise a dedicated day to celebrate the power of coworking.
On the inaugural European Coworking Day in 2023, 80 coworking spaces from 18 countries participated. By the second edition, participation had nearly doubled, with 145 spaces from 21 countries joining the celebration, highlighting the movement’s growing impact. In its third year, European Coworking Day 2025 (14th May) aims to be the biggest celebration yet, with the ambition that 250+ coworking spaces across 25 countries will mark it.
To gear up for this year’s exciting celebration, we spoke to three London-based coworking communities about their upcoming plans for European Coworking Day.
Workshops at Blue Garage, Lewisham
The mission behind Blue Garage (the capital’s newest coworking makerspace) is simple – breaking down the barriers to making and manufacturing in London, while making the tools more affordable, accessible, and sustainable for a community of makers to thrive. Sitting directly above a fully equipped micro factory, home to some of the UK’s most advanced large-format fabrication machinery, Blue Garage operates as an industrial-grade fabrication lab, where people can prototype, produce, and grow their businesses.
Marking European Coworking Day, Blue Garage is opening its doors to the public, inviting creatives, entrepreneurs, and curious minds to an ‘Open House.’ There, they can experience the makerspace, meet a vibrant community, and try hands-on workshops celebrating the power of making. Starting with a space tour to explore its coworking studios, meeting rooms, creative labs, and digital fabrication facilities, there is also an opportunity to connect with the Blue Garage team, resident artists, engineers, and members.
Two engaging, accessible afternoon sessions follow, including:
- Screen printing and T-shirt design in the Textiles Lab, with guidance from resident artists, including Custhom and sustainable designer Helen Kirkum.
- Creating a poster, banner, or print project using cutting-edge equipment.
- Prototype ideas in the Digital Lab, with 3D printing support from in-house product design engineers.
Although its resources are free, Blue Garage integrates with Nexudus to simplify booking space, tools, and workshops, and is essential for smoothly and equitably running its ecosystem.
Marking Mental Health Awareness Week at Patch Workspaces
More than just a workspace, Patch is rooted in the heart of the community, supporting entrepreneurs, freelancers, and small businesses, whether launching a startup or simply seeking a space to focus.
As European Coworking Day coincides with Mental Health Awareness Week (12th–18th May), Patch is curating an event schedule so that both celebrations go hand-in-hand. A step challenge for its members is in the works, linking up all five Patch sites across Bournemouth, Twickenham, High Wycombe, Chelmsford, and York. Every day, Patch will post updates, keeping morale high.
Patch Twickenham is putting a creative spin on the ‘Pecha Kucha’ (a fast-paced storytelling style where presenters share 20 slides for 20 seconds each on a topic). Coining it – ‘Patcha Kucha’ – Patch Twickenham will run a series of lunchtime sessions for members. Meanwhile, non-members across Patch spaces will be given an opportunity into what a day at its coworking spaces might look like – its teams are providing coffee, cake, and coworking so that people can receive a real coworking experience.
The team has also asked each of its sites to produce a member testimonial about how being part of their respective Patch community has made them feel a sense of belonging. This is being collated into a blog post to celebrate European Coworking Day.
Community lunch at Contingent Workspace
Located in the heart of Bromley, Contingent Works is a vibrant coworking space supporting freelancers, entrepreneurs, and remote workers. Contingent Works curates a strong community spirit, hosting events and workshops, encouraging networking and professional growth.
On European Coworking Day 2025, Contingent Works plans to offer a free lunch to all members and anyone who wants to try coworking for the first time. Placing a neighbourhood focus central to this celebration, Contingent Works is hosting these lunches with some of the local restaurants in the area to mark this occasion, celebrating the role that coworking and F&B businesses play for local communities.
Your plans for European Coworking Day
If you haven’t firmed up your plans for the 14th May, there are so many ways you can celebrate this day with your coworking communities. Here are a few ideas to inspire you:
- Panel discussions: Invite some of your coworking members to join a panel talk about a topic that your community would engage with, for example, personal branding or marketing for freelancers and entrepreneurs. One of the powers of coworking is how it brings incredible professional opportunities to community members.
- Community session: With community being a huge benefit of coworking, consider hosting a networking event on European Coworking Day that strengthens yours. Arrange icebreaker activities to encourage your members to meet one another, leading to tighter connections forming across your community.
- Wellness activities: Like Patch has tied European Coworking Day with Mental Health Awareness Week, consider organising an event that gets your community moving. Host a yoga session at your workspace, a nature walk around your local park, or even partner with a local gym in your neighbourhood to offer a discount day for members.
Whatever your plans are on European Coworking Day, participating in this vibrant celebration is about championing the transformative power of coworking together. Learn more and join the movement!
